The main part of the Symposium will open on June 19 with key note addresses from the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre and the Director General of the IAEA, Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei.

Introducing the Symposium on June 17-18 is a technical workshop which will systematically address the technical issues related to HEU minimization, inter alia: 1) Current status of HEU in civilian uses, 2) where LEU can successfully replace HEU today, and 3) how the production and use of HEU can be further reduced in the future

The Symposium will take stock of national views and experiences related to HEU minimization to date, as well as some existing international initiatives and partnerships dedicated to this purpose. The presentations will be followed by roundtable discussions and the preparation of a chairman’s paper to be concluded at the end of the Symposium, June 20 at noon (tentative).
