 Dr Charles Piani is currently the Senior Manager of the SAFARI-1 Research Reactor stationed at Pelindaba ( Pretoria) South Africa. He has PhD in Materials Science and has been involved in nuclear applications at Pelindaba for the last 40 years. Initially he started his career as a Scientist in the R&D of materials (irradiation damage in materials in SAFARI-1) and was then directly responsible for the South African PWR fuel manufacturing programme (design and quality engineering) and is now in charge of the SAFARI-1 reactor operations as well as the MTR fuel manufacture department at Necsa.
