Dr Ron CAMERON, BSc, MSc, MBA, DPhil, ARCS, has worked in the nuclear industry for over 20 years in the UK, France and Australia and on both power and research reactor safety. In the UK he led the work on fast reactor safety modelling and also was part of the team that produced the safety case for the UK’s first Pressurised Water Reactor.
In Australia, he was for 3 years General Manager of the Australian Centre of Advanced Risk and Reliability Engineering at the University of Sydney, for 8 years Director of Safety at ANSTO, for one year Director of Government and Public Affairs, and currently is Chief of Operations, a member of the Executive team managing all the activities at ANSTO. He has particular responsibility for operations, which also includes international relations, security and safeguards. He has had a major leadership role in the tendering, licensing and construction of Australia’s replacement research reactor.
Dr Cameron speaks regularly at national and international meetings on safety and security of nuclear facilities, safety culture and international collaborative programmes. He is Australia’s National Representative for the IAEA regional cooperative agreement among the 17 countries in our region and Australia National Coordinator for the Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia. For the first 6 months of 2003, Dr Cameron was attached to the IAEA to work on issues related to prevention of radiological terrorism.
